Why Worms are awesome animals!

We have all seen them, they can contract extract to help them move across the pavement, as well as they have a slimy coating along their skin. Worms have been seen by all of North America, rather it be in a garden or on the streets on a rainy day. They actually come out during rainy days due to the fact that their holes get flooded with water and if they where to stay underground they would drown or suffocate. Worms are very great wonderful creatures for our forests and gardens because they help bread down composted foods and turn it into highly nutritious feces which plants use for growth. Worms are also unique because they have multiple heart and can still live after being cut in half, they also have the ability to reconstruct themselves. Due to their extraordinary feature this creature is often used in various experiments for basic Biology classes, and is just fascinating.

Here are some amazing fact about the worm and why this animal is so amazing.

1) There are approximately 2,700 different kinds of earthworms.

2) The largest earthworm ever found was in South Africa and measured 22 feet  long.

4) Charles Darwin spent 39 years studying earthworms more than 100 years ago.

5) Worms are cold-blooded animals.

6) Baby worms are not born. They hatch from cocoons smaller than a grain of rice.
